Wallpapers of Tom and Jerry Anime

When I was writing about the Splatter show at The Aquarium las week it made me think about the old T&J cartoons that I love and the crap versions that kids today have to watch on Cartoon Network. So for anyone who's remotely interested in watching some classic Oscar winning cartoons here's a few things to watch out for...

First up is the name Fred Quimby (check him out here). He was the producer at MGM's Animation department when Hanna and Barbera came up with the idea for a cartoon based around the antics of a Cat and Mouse. Quimby won 8 Oscars and was nominated for a further 7 during his time producin the T&J cartoons (all in consecutive years) and simply put: If his name heads up the cartoon then its a winner!
Of course everyone knows that The Simpsons reference for Itchy & Scratchy is the Tom & Jerry Cartoons but Mayor Quimby is a reference to the long time cartoon producer and even moreso in his nephew 'Freddy Quimby'. (Reports that Fred Quimby found the word Chowder spoken in a French accent remain unsubstantiated).
After Fred Quimby left MGM in 1955 and Tom & Jerry died a death soon after as along came the 1960's. Simply put there are plenty of awesome T&J cartoons out there to enjoy, all you have to do is look out for Quimby's name and you're sorted.

If it looks like the pic below, then avoid it - not only does it look shit, but it ain't gonna be funny either. The 60s were not kind to Tom and Jerry. If the Cat and Mouse talk then switch off, or worse if its called Tom and Jerry Kids you'd better poke out your eyes and rip off your ears just in case you do accidently watch some of it!
